On the 9th August 2013 Manchester Central Fire cadets attended Asda in Harpurhey and conducted fund raising activities involving bag packing. Cadets were joined by Firefighters from Blackley Fire Station and in addition to back packing the cadets also gave Fire Safety advice to members of the public and promoted the Home Safety Check service. The day was a success and the cadets raised an impressive £450, the money raised has gone to the charity Retrack which offers assistance to community members abroad and to the family of Firefighter Stephen Hunt. Fund raising is a very important part of cadet life and this has been the sixth occassion the cadets have taken part in an activity to raise funds to help others, they are currently planning the next project which will be with the Red Cross. Keep checking back in on the blog over the next few months as Manchester Cadets units are very busy with other exciting activities.. :-)

Fire Cadets Manchester - Community Activities
Hi all,
My name is Alex I am 15 years old and I’m a Fire Cadet at
S16 Manchester Central.
As Fire Cadets we do different events with Greater
Manchester Fire Service, we did an event at the Velodrome at Eastland’s. At
this event we asked different members of the public if they had smoke alarms in
their house, and if they knew their escape route if they had a fire, if they
didn't have smoke alarms we offered them a free Home Fire safety check. We also
sold pink and yellow helmets for children to wear, the money we collected from
the helmet selling we gave to two charities, one was called Manchester Burn’s
Camp and the other one was called The Fire Fighter’s Charity.
We also did the St Georges Day Parade. We got to meet a lot
of new people as well as offer Fire Safety advice to members of the public. We also
raised money for Help for Heroes. It was a good day and everyone had fun.
We are also planning more events for the future to help out
in the community.

Manchester Fire Cadets
Greetings from all at the Manchester Fire Cadet units..
We have now finished our summer leave from Cadets and are now back in on stations once a week for drill night. Since coming back we have been very busy doing ladders, knots and lines and hose running.. which has been great as we have been able to spray each other with water to cool us down in this summer weather :-) :-)
The next few months we are also busy working towards the completion of our BTEC Award at Manchester Central and starting our BTEC certificate, we are also very much looking forward to visiting our colleagues at Whitehill Fire Station where our Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) are based. The USAR team are there to respond to various major incidents and have been overseas to various countries including Haiti to assist with rescue operations.
We are also planning to raise money for charity this month and have decided to do bag packing at Asda this will be to raise money for the Family of Firefighter Stephen Hunt who tragically lost his life whilst attending a fire in Oldham Street, Manchester on the 13th July 2013.
Money raised from the bag packing will also go towards a charity that Blackley Fire Station are involved in which will see a few firefighters from Blackley going abroad to help others in need.
So.... a busy, busy few weeks
